It is a start-up in the medical world which has just won the competition organized by the Bassin d’Arcachon Sud urban community, and six months’ accommodation in La Teste. The founder of Flowstim Technology was the guest of L’éco d’ici this Thursday.

It’s a final boost for a company that was already well advanced. Flowstim Technology has just won the COBAS’Innovation, start-up competition organized by the Bassin d’Arcachon Sud urban community. She therefore wins six months of accommodation within the Economic Pole of COBAS in La Teste. The Bassin start-up will be able to benefit from its proximity to the Arcachon Hospital Center. Because it is indeed a medical solution that the company is producing: Flowtens, a solution to reduce urinary leakage.

Flowtens presents itself like a splint worn on the ankle for 20 minutes a day et “contains a small neurostimulator and electrodes”, explains Florent Papillaud, the founder of the company, guest this Thursday on L’éco d’ici. “You have to imagine that the bladder is in permanent communication with the brain. By stimulating a very specific nerve called the tibial nerve, we will interfere with the abnormal messages that the bladder sends to the brain.” he explains. Ultimately, this must “calm urinary disorders and more particularly what we call overactive bladder.”

“The development of the device began four years ago,” explains Florent Papillaud. The last step, the “certification phase at European Commission level” is in progress. “We are really on the verge of putting it on the market,” he explains, with a launch target of September. “We manufactured 150 devices,” to test the production line, he continues, and the goal is to “launch production of 2,000 units” in September “and little by little, to increase production over the coming years.”

Flowtens, which will be prescribed by “urologists, rehabilitation doctors, gynecologists and we can imagine general practitioners” will be fully reimbursed by social security, adds Florent Papillaud.
