The Maubuisson estate houses the buildings and remains of the Cistercian abbey “Notre-Dame-La-Royale”, founded in 1236 by Queen Blanche of Castile (1188-1252). The park is included on the list of the supplementary inventory of historical monuments. Stream, canal and water mirrors, witnesses of the hydraulic developments built between the Middle Ages and the 18th century, adorn the ten hectare wooded park. Inserted in an urban environment, it offers walkers the welcome breath of its vast lawns and its old plane trees labeled “remarkable trees of France”. Served by a green passage, it hosts works of art, lasting or ephemeral.
The park plays with an urban environment; link between history and the city, it is both an exterior and natural extension of the building and a very rich green space comprising plant, hydraulic and mineral elements. The abbey is a historical, aesthetic and spiritual place. It is a complex site which exists as much through its absences, its gaps and the urban changes inscribed in the landscape as through what has been restored and preserved.

THE ART CENTER
Today dedicated to contemporary art, the abbey produces major monographic exhibitions in direct contact with the place. The invited artists are chosen for their ability to question a space much more complex than its heritage identity alone. The abbey develops its production and mediation project around the three axes which structure its identity: contemporary creation, heritage and natural environment.
Maubuisson Abbey organizes exhibitions which give rise to the production of new works and reflect the diversity of contemporary creation (installation, video, sculpture, etc.). The art center has hosted varied aesthetics since its inception.

An exhibition around olfaction. Experience-journey for a synesthetic approach, it summons the other senses, sight, hearing, touch, taste… exhibition
