It seems brand new, with new assets… But it is not the same Ferris wheel that sits on the Delayen esplanade. The old structure was replaced by a new one (from Toulon), more modern, secure and offering access for people with reduced mobility. Since June 19, blue and white LEDs have been attracting people. “I hope it will attract people, otherwise I wouldn’t have changed it”, assures Rudy Maury, the owner. In the surrounding area, comments are going well.

“Like in ski resorts”

“The old one was a little rusty, so it’s more aesthetic. The new appearance and the closed nacelles are reassuring”, underlines Manon, responsible for the structure. According to her, access for people with reduced mobility (PRM) is a considerable advantage, which helps promote accessibility for people with disabilities.

Geneviève, a Raphaëloise, stops in front of the wheel, apparently seduced by its new appearance: “It almost looks like the cabins in ski resorts. It’s funny, it makes me want to take a ride”, she says, referring to the nacelles. For the fifty-year-old, this modern version is a success.

“We don’t really see the landscape anymore”

An opinion shared by Brigitte, receptionist at the Excelsior Hotel: “It is more beautiful and bright. At night, thanks to its lighting, we can see it from a long distance. What is certain is that it will please vacationers and customers in our city.”

Despite a particular craze, the Ferris wheel, which has become a true emblem of the city of the Archangel, does not please everyone. Elena, a student, gets off it. “I preferred the old one. You can’t even feel the air anymore because of the windows. I felt oppressed inside”, she declares, disappointed. Concerning establishments close to construction, some were surprised by this change.

Marine, who works at The Felix snack bar, finds this “Too bad. We can’t really see the landscape anymore. And the prices have gone up. But hey, we’ll get used to it.”
