Three marinas in Loire-Atlantique certified as Clean Ports!

The ports of Piriac-sur-Mer, La Baule-Le Pouliguen and Pornic have just been certified “Clean Ports” by AFNOR. These are the first three ports in the region to be awarded this distinction. Operated by Loire-Atlantique Nautisme

, these three ports are the first to receive this distinction in Pays de la Loire. The “Clean Ports” Certification is the only certification specific to marinas. It rewards the continuous efforts undertaken in recent years at the ports Piriac-sur-Mer, La Baule-le Pouliguen and Pornic in order to reduce the impacts of recreational activity on natural environments and constitutes here a translation of the proactive strategy implemented in place in terms of environmental management in these 3 Loire-Atlantique ports. In order to obtain this certification, a guarantee of the ports’ commitment to preserving the environment, these ports were interviewed and examined on the basis of 17 criteria (waste management, water, energy, prevention pollution, etc.) and had to prepare their approach in 5 stages, over a period of 2 years:

  • After carrying out their Clean Ports environmental diagnosis, these ports had to implement a specific action plan:
  • Management of chronic and accidental pollution by installing anti-pollution kits, clean points for hazardous waste or even black water pumps,
  • Control of water consumption with sectoral meters and energy with timers,
  • Raising awareness among boaters (signage, educational videos on the harbor master’s screen, organization of awareness sessions, etc.),

Staff training

To carry out this project, Loire-Atlantique Nautisme was supported by the Association of Marinas of Brittany (APPB), which brings together 128 marinas and anchorage areas from Granville to Pornic. Pilot of the approach, the APPB provides numerous tools for the benefit of marinas, in order to help users and managers reduce the impacts of recreational activities on the environment: personalized support, communication tools and Clean Ports training for port staff.
