In Mosellethe first round of the legislative elections ended in a three-way race in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 9th constituencies of the department.

In these territories, the National Rally (RN) came in first place, followed by the presidential majority or the Union of Democrats and Independents, then by the Union of the Left (UG).

Faced with this result, the candidates of the New Popular Front announced the withdrawal of their candidacy for the second round and called for to block au RN.

1st constituency: a call to vote for the best-placed candidate

In the 1st constituency (namely the cantons of Maizières-lès-Metz, Marange-Silvange, Metz III, Rombas and Woippy), Jordan Bardella’s party came out on top with almost 40% of the votes:

  • Grégoire Laloux (RN): 39.81%
  • Belkhir Belhaddad (outgoing MP, Together!): 27.59%
  • Vincent Félix (UG) : 26.10 %

Several colleagues, in particular France 3confirmed the withdrawal of Mr. Félix’s candidacy. With the Republican Lorrainehe assured: “We are not going to make a mistake about the enemy, and we are going to call for a vote for the candidate best placed to beat the RN.”

2nd constituency: a withdrawal “in view of the danger represented by the extreme right”

Here are the results in the 2nd constituency (including Ars-sur-Moselle, Metz IV, Montigny-lès-Metz and Verny):

  • Marie-Claude Voinçon (RN): 37.48%
  • Ludovic Mendes (outgoing MP, Together!): 30.22%
  • Victorien Nicolas (UG) : 26.61 %

On social media, Mr. Nicolas also announced the withdrawal of his candidacy for the second round “in view of the results and the “danger posed by the extreme right” : “We call unambiguously for to block the extreme rightfor this, the only bulletin that will allow it will be that of Ludovic Mendes,” he writes.

3rd constituency: “I call for a vote for the candidate facing the RN”

In the 3rd constituency (grouping together the cantons of Metz I, Metz II, Metz III, Pange, Vigy, Chieulles, Mey, Saint-Julien-lès-Metz, Vantoux, Vany), the outgoing MP comes in third place:

  • Victor Chomard (RN) : 35,32 %
  • Nathalie Colin-Oesterlé (UDI): 34.66%
  • Charlotte Leduc (outgoing MP, UG): 28.27%

The same story from Ms. Leduc: “I withdraw my candidacy and I call for a vote for the candidate against the RN without any ambiguity. I have always believed that my political choices with NUPES and the NFP were there to carry a project of solidarity, of humanity. It is therefore obvious that my candidacy must not allow the arrival of an additional RN deputy in the National Assembly.

Ms Leduc also points the finger at the political choices of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and his decision to dissolve the National Assembly after the RN’s victory in the European elections: ” [Il] made a dangerous choice.”

9th constituency: a withdrawal “in the spirit of the republic”

At the level of the 9th constituency (namely the cantons of Cattenom, Metzervisse, Sierck-les-Bains, Thionville Est, Thionville Ouest, Yutz), the outgoing MP came second:

  • Baptise Philip (RN) : 38.29 %
  • Isabelle Rauch (Ensemble !) : 35,12 %
  • Brigitte Vaîsse (UG) : 22.84 %

Near Lorraine NewsMs. Vaîsse confirms the withdrawal of her candidacy for the second round “in the republican spirit”. She explains that her withdrawal is intended to block the National Rally and calls on voters to vote for Ms Rauch.

The disappointment was great, especially for the activists. It is difficult to tell them that we are withdrawing. We had activists who believed in the work done on the ground and who thought that the second round was possible, that was the objective. […] The fight continues, we will not give up.

Candidate Union of the Left

The result of the first round in this constituency, located a stone’s throw from Luxembourg, has also caused a reaction: “It is a result which is particularly striking in our border constituency, in the heart of Europe,” underlines Ms Vaîsse.
