Is traveling for a week to Quebec still affordable?

Unsurprisingly, it depends on our choices in terms of accommodation, activities and our other expenses such as restaurants and transportation.

Noovo Info took part in the game and played the role of tourist for a week to see the costs that people from outside the Old Capital should expect to pay during their stay.

Quebec City ranks first in CAA’s list of most popular destinations.

Accommodation

According to the general director of the Quebec City Region Hotel Association, Alupa Clarke, the average price of a hotel room ranges between $200 and $230 for one night.

“We have a very diverse offering in Quebec. We can go to a luxurious room like a family room,” he explained to Noovo Info on Tuesday.

Noovo Info spotted a room around the average price mentioned at the Le Concorde hotel with two queen beds. We get away with costs of $1521 for a full week.

“Quebec is one of the cheapest international destinations compared to Paris, New York, Vancouver and Toronto,” assured Mr. Clarke. We have some of the best hotels in the world.”

Activities

The general director of Destination Québec Cité, Robert Mercure, said that the City offers several affordable activities, such as outdoor activities and walking in Old Quebec.

For one week, Noovo Info has planned an itinerary of several activities for a total of $805.

Here is the list of activities:

Old Quebec

  • Guided bus tour ($155)
  • Visit to the Citadel ($44)

Chute Montmorency

  • Access to the park ($11) and Île d’Orléans cable car ($45)
  • Visit to the Drouin house ($14)

Jacques-Cartier Park

  • Access to the site ($20) and 1 hour of canoeing ($19)
  • Museum of Civilization ($55)
  • Valcartier Holiday Villages ($220)
  • Quebec Aquarium ($69)

Lose it

  • Visit to the historic site ($61)
  • Onhwa’ Light ($90)

Total : 805$

However, free or inexpensive activities are popular at the moment due to the rising cost of living, it is said.

“This is the strength of our region,” added Mr. Mercure.

The cost of transportation and restaurant may also vary.

You must therefore calculate between $2000 to $3000 to spend a week in the Old Capital.
