CM2 pupils discover the different services of the town hall

Friday June 21, 2024, 120 CM2 students from the town’s three elementary schools, Irma-Jouenne, Notre-Dame and Ermitage, were invited to a visit to the Saint-Benoît town hall to discover the different municipal services: reception, town planning , civil status, municipal social action center (CCAS)… A first for many of them.
Divided into small groups, accompanied by their teachers and parent volunteers, and guided by elected officials, they visited, questionnaire in hand, the wedding hall, the council room, the mayor’s office, decorated with the symbols of the Republic.
At the Priory stadium, they met municipal police officials who carried out their various missions. On this occasion, Nadac, 17 years old, and Swenia, 21 years old, the two franches-montagnes of the municipal police on horseback, received many caresses. A small moment of sadness for some, when they learned that this year, the two horses will leave the town for a well-deserved retirement.
Another highlight of the day was devoted to visiting the youth structure Welcome, nature, culture, meetings and exchanges (Ancre) which will be able to welcome them from the next school year on Wednesday afternoon and during school holidays.

Question and answer game

After a picnic under the foliage of Cookham Park, prepared by the school catering service, the future middle school students, now experienced in citizenship, took part in the highly anticipated question-and-answer game with the mayor and elected officials. A host of questions on the prerogatives of a mayor, his motivations for occupying such a function, the constraints of the office, but also questions on the symbols of the Republic and the conduct of the elections. They learned on this occasion that the town hall had once been a place of residence. The house only became a town hall in 1930 and its extension inaugurated in 1995.
