There will indeed be a three-way race this Sunday in Roanne. Coming in third place with 18% of the vote in the first round of the legislative elections, beaten by Antoine Vermorel-Marques (LR, 42%) and Sandrine Granger (RN, 36%), the candidate of the New Popular Front Ismaël Stevenson is staying for the second round. A decision taken in conjunction with the national leadership of his party, La France Insoumise, we learned this Monday.

Mr Stevenson’s retention causes the end of the left-wing union in the 5th constituency of the Loire. Earlier in the day, the Socialist Party of the Loire had called for “a barrier to the peril of the extreme right” and to vote for candidates capable of beating them throughout the department, in particular for the outgoing LR MP Antoine Vermorel-Marques in Roannais. Within the PS of the Loire, it was assured on Monday evening that they did not understand this retention of Ismaël Stevenson. Consequently, the Loire socialists are still calling for a vote for the LR candidate Antoine Vermorel-Marques, against the RN… and against the left-wing candidate.
