The Windsor Public Library reached a tentative agreement over the weekend with the union that represents 70 of its employees.
Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 2067 would have been in a legal strike position at 12:01 a.m. Sunday morning.
Details of the tentative agreement have not been made public, but City Councillor Mark McKenzie, who chairs the library board, said Sunday that the deal will not result in any service cuts.
I can tell you that this is a fair and equitable agreement for the workers, but also for the residents of Windsor-Essex.
he argued.
The councilor did not specify whether the agreement included more opening hours on Sundays.
The union was concerned that opening hours would be reduced on weekdays, when there is more traffic, to allow longer opening hours on Sundays, without increasing costs.
These negotiations were difficult
acknowledged local president Dan Rutherford. The next step, he explained, will be to present the offer to members so that they can make an informed decision and accept the offer or not
.
Negotiations had been ongoing since the beginning of the year.
The date of the ratification vote has not yet been set. The Library Board of Trustees and Windsor City Council will also have to approve the tentative agreement.
