When families come to visit their loved ones incarcerated at the Nantes detention center, the wait for the visiting room is never very joyful. But volunteers do their utmost to make this visit more pleasant: coffee, dialogue, a warm welcome. The Prison Justice 44 association, which has just celebrated its 40th anniversary, has decided to go further, by investing nearly €1,300 of its own funds. A large, colorful fresco was created by the Nantes artist Odanie Souksavat, in the children’s play area.

Prisoners sentenced to long sentences have themselves contributed to improving the reception of their families as part of the wood training, offered in prison.

“They made a magnificent solid wood frame to serve as a showcase for the children’s drawings and colorings,” explains Michel Mascaras, one of the volunteers, on the occasion of a small inauguration which took place on Friday June 21, in the presence of members of the prison administration. “Providing a visiting room in a prison and going there is never a trivial matter. We strive to offer visitors who wish it a moment to breathe. »
