This Tuesday at 6 p.m., the last two matches of Group D were played: Austria-Netherlands and France-Poland. High-stakes matches for Austria, France and the Netherlands, all three of whom could claim first place in the group.

Although the three teams were already qualified before the start of the match, we experienced a surprising outcome since it was ultimately Austria who finished first in the group after beating the Netherlands 3-2. The team will also have benefited from the misstep of France who failed to win their match against Poland despite their numerous opportunities.

For their part, the Austrians had a perfect start to the match thanks to Malen’s own goal in the 6th minute. The Netherlands chased the score throughout the match, equalizing for the first time in the 46th minute and then a second time in the 75th minute. Despite this, the Austrians will never give up. It was ultimately a goal from Sabitzer with a beautiful left-footed shot from a tight angle which gave the Austrians victory. They could even have scored a fourth goal a few minutes later but it was canceled due to an offside position by Christoph Baumgartner.

Danso left on the bench

Despite the victory of his teammates, RC Lens defender Kevin Danso remained on the bench throughout the match. After being started in the first Euro match against France, where he put in an average performance, like the rest of his team, it seems that the defender has lost points with his coach. Despite a good start against Poland, the Lensois player was not allowed a single minute last night. Nothing to worry about for the defender who may have simply been rested.

The most important thing remains victory, synonymous with first place. Kevin Danso will therefore continue the adventure with the Austrians. We should definitely see him play again in the round of 16. The Austrians will know their opponents this evening, at the end of the group F matches since Austria will face the second in group F: either Turkey, the Czech Republic or Georgia.
