Suffocated by her husband: Nancy Catapermal was a victim of domestic violence for more than four years, reveals Jenssy Sabapathee

Nancy Catapermal, 27, had been a victim of domestic violence for more than four years. This is what Jenssy Sabapathee of the Respecter Nous Association said on RadioPlus. According to the social activist, this mother of two children, a 4-month-old baby and a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, was going through an ordeal. The last blow from her husband, Jonathan Merle, was fatal. Jenssy Sabapathee emphasizes that she had advised Nancy Catapermal to file a police report. The victim even applied for a “Protection Order” against her husband in May. Please listen to his testimony on our audio player.

On June 2, Nancy Catapermal was found dead at her husband’s home at Résidence Argy, Flacq. A post-mortem examination carried out the next day by Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, a forensic pathologist, established that she had died of left ventricular failure.

However, the head of the forensic department recommended that the Eastern Criminal Investigation Division (CID) carry out further investigations. Subjected to close interrogation, the victim’s husband ended up confessing. He notably revealed that he had suffocated his wife with a pillow. The husband was arrested yesterday, Monday June 24, three weeks after the murder of the young woman, which he had disguised as a natural death.
