The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has ensured that the water treated and distributed in the town of Zaouiat Cheikh is drinkable and meets the quality standards in force at the national level.

In an update following information relayed by certain electronic sites about the quality of drinking water in Zaouiat Cheikh (province of Béni Mellal), the regional management of the office – Water Branch – reports that “the town of Zaouiat Cheikh is supplied with drinking water from two water sources, namely, the Bouguendaz source, whose water is subjected to a sterilization process and the water from the Ouar Al Nafaa source which is subjected to treatment from a sand filtration and sterilization station.

The same source recalls that due to stormy rains occurring in the mountains, the raw water from the Ouar AL Nafaa source is sometimes exposed to an increase in the level of suspended matter, something which happened on 06/17/2024 at 11:00 p.m., where the pumping of raw water to the treatment station was immediately stopped.

After checking the quality of this water and the viability of its treatment by the Office Laboratory, the pumping operation was resumed to the treatment station on 06/18/2024 at 8 a.m. morning, specified the Office, recalling that no disruption was recorded in the supply of drinking water to the inhabitants of the town of Zaouiat Cheikh, in particular during the period of Eid al-Adha which is experiencing high water consumption.

ONEE recalls having reinforced, through its laboratories, the frequency of physico-chemical and bacteriological control of water produced and distributed, explaining that following the results of the water quality control carried out by the Office and the services of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, it was found that the water is potable and meets the quality standards in force at the national level and complies with the national standards relating to the quality of water for food use, which come from the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

Thus, and based on the results of laboratory analyses, it was confirmed that the water treated and distributed in the town of Zaouiat Cheikh is drinkable and presents no risk to the health of the consumer.
