The Nancy municipal council validated in September 2023 a call for projects to sell the former school of fine arts, by validating specifications requiring a rehabilitation which scrupulously respects the spirit of the place and its architecture.

This Monday, the municipal council voted for the city to sign a promise of sale from August, with the Linkcity group, a subsidiary of the Bouygues Group, in order to develop a high-end hotel program supported by the American group Marriott International .

The 5,000 m building2 which will be sold was built in 1909 on avenue Boffrand and housed the school of fine arts until 2016, when it joined the Artem site. “As part of the call for projects that we launched, twenty-nine candidates withdrew a file and ten visits were carried out,” explains Franck Muratet, deputy delegate for attractiveness.

“Following these visits, two offers were presented and only one was admissible. It comes from a group of Linkcity, real estate developer of Bouygues Construction, and Pingat Property & Hospitality, which will be the investor and will operate the hotel under the Tribute Portofolio brand of the Marriott International group. The project management will be led by Anne Demians, the architect of Nancy-Thermal. »

The sale price of the building with its land was set at €1.8 million while the Domaines valued the whole thing at €4.5 million. “The qualitative offer presents an investment of €24 million and respects the entire heritage of the building and its garden,” explains Franck Muratet. The project fully integrates into the neighborhood and will bring new life to this building which has been falling into disrepair for several years. »

Commissioned in 2027

The hotel project provides for 89 rooms, a semi-buried car park, an extension of the building onto the garden and the restoration of sculptures and various heritage elements with the possible contribution of the school of fine arts. It is also planned that an annex building of 400 m2 next to the main building, be removed to provide plant continuity towards Sainte-Marie Park.

“Converted into a high-end hotel, the former school of fine arts will benefit from the prestige and know-how of the international Marriott brand, allowing it to reach a large foreign clientele. »

According to the forecast schedule, it will be necessary to wait until the end of 2024 to submit the building permit, before work begins in September 2025 and is put into operation in May 2027.
