Celebrating Canadian Multiculturalism Day within the Defense Team

June 27, 2024 – Defense News

Since 2002, The Government of Canada marks Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27. It is a day for everyone to celebrate Canada’s cultural diversity, which provides all members of the Defense Team with the opportunity to reflect on inclusion in our organization and the essential role we play. let’s all play. It is intended to be an opportunity for us to celebrate, honor and reflect.

Indeed, true inclusion is synonymous with group effort.

Throughout the year, the Defence Team marks days, months and seasons of commemoration. Canadian Multiculturalism Day celebrates Canadians as a whole and all members of the Defence Team from different cultures and backgrounds. It is a perfect opportunity to pause and recognize that diverse perspectives are our strength.

Recent census results show that people over 450 origins different ethnic or cultural backgrounds live in Canada. We must therefore continue our efforts to ensure that the Defense Team reflects Canada’s rich tapestry of diversity.

Increasing diversity and inclusion enriches our workplace and equips us to support and foster the broad range of expertise required to meet today’s complex challenges.

Additionally, it allows members of the Defense Team to feel welcomed, seen and valued – both for who they are and for their contribution to achieving our mission to defend Canada and its people.

Diversity enhances our operational effectiveness and is a key factor in the long-term success of the Armed Forces Canadian (CAF) and the Ministry of Defense national (MDN).

Days like this matter because they remind us to reflect on the discrimination that many cultural groups continue to face. Discrimination of any kind goes against our values and has no place on the Defence Team.
