With seven candidates on the starting line, the race for nomination in the first constituency of the Dordogne promises to be tighter than in 2022: the legislative elections then included ten candidates for deputy.
Pascale Martin (LFI/Nupes) came out on top in the first round (24.33%), closely followed by the Renaissance candidate, Philippe Chassaing (21.48%). With 20.29% of the votes, Williams Ambroise (RN) did not qualify for the second round, during which Pascale Martin won her duel with 51.85% of the votes cast.
But considering the results of the European elections on June 9, the balance of power seems to have changed in two years. If the two ballots are not comparable, they give an idea of the trends: between the 2022 legislative elections and the 2024 European elections, the right-wing bloc (RN and Reconquest!) won more than 7,000 votes, becoming by far the leading force with nearly 17,500 votes, while the left bloc (LFI, EELV, PS), which had gathered around 15,500 votes in the first round in 2022, only had 11,500 in the European elections.
Behind, for Renaissance and Les Républicains, it was a massacre since the presidential majority only gathered 5,700 votes at the beginning of June (minus 3,000) and LR barely more than 2,300 ballots (minus 2,500).
Who in the second round?
Knowing that it is necessary to bring together 12.5% of those registered to qualify for the second round of the legislative elections, i.e. a little more than 9,700 votes in the first constituency, only two camps seem able to hope to campaign until the July 7: the RN, which could reach this quorum despite the presence of a Reconquest! candidate, and the New Popular Front (NFP).
For Clément Tonon, the majority candidate (Horizons), who failed to convince Bérenger Desport-Namur (LR) to join him, we will have to jostle to reach the second round. A second round during which the voting instructions of the losers will be decisive in awarding the crown, particularly if an NFP-RN duel is confirmed.
