Deaths, injuries and illegal imprisonments in Senegal: “The amnesia law must be repealed…”, says Aminata Touré

For the former Minister Keeper of the Seals, Aminata Touré, the Senegalese people deserve this duty of justice which must be rendered to them in view of all that has happened recently. With nearly 60 deaths during recent violent demonstrations, countless injuries and imprisonments, most of which benefited from the amnesty recently voted by the National Assembly, according to Aminata Touré it is time for justice. To do this, this amnesty law should be repealed. “Personally, I think the amnesty law should be revoked. Justice must be done to all these illegally injured and imprisoned deaths, and responsibilities must be established. Today, I consider that this amnesty law must be revoked because I am thinking of the sixty deaths that have occurred. This is my position,” the former Prime Minister told Rfm during the Grand Jury program. Going further in her arguments, Aminata Touré is of the opinion that responsibilities must be located even if those of the former head of state, Macky Sall, are engaged. “If he is responsible, he will have to answer. It’s that simple. We will see what the courts say about these proceedings. But the Senegalese must know how these young people who demonstrated were killed and by whom. It’s a duty to tell the truth.”
