In less than 24 hours, the polling stations will open, and participation is expected to increase. Here is everything you need to know for these 2024 legislative elections in the Alpes-Maritimes.

In the Alpes-Maritimes department, voters are required to appoint nine deputies. The first round of the 2024 legislative elections will take place this Sunday, June 30 in nearly a thousand polling stations in the department.

Schedules

Polling stations will open at 8 a.m. and close in most cities at 6 p.m. As with every election, some cities have an exemption to close the offices later.

This is the case in 20 municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes: Antibes, Aspremont, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Cannes, Carros, Grasse, Le Cannet, Mandelieu-la-Napoule, Menton, Mouans-Sartoux, Mougins, Nice, Roquebrune- Cap-Martin, Saint-André-de-la-Roche, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, La Trinité, Valbonne, Vallauris, Vence and Villeneuve-Loubet.

Voter card, office…

To be able to vote, in the Alpes-Maritimes, you must be of legal age and be registered on the electoral lists of one of the 163 municipalities. To vote, you must have your voter card and go to your office, but don’t panic, if you don’t have the card or the office, here’s how to do it.

You can find your polling station with your postal address by logging into your Franceconnect personal space.

For the voter card, it is not mandatory. If you have it, take it, it’s better, it’s more practical and it allows you to have a stamp for each election (souvenir souvenir!).

If you do not have it, you can present a simple identity card. In municipalities with less than 1,000 inhabitants, it is not even necessary but the president of the office can ask you for it if he has any doubts.

If you do not have your identity card, you can present:

  • A passport
  • Fighter card with photograph
  • Disability card with photograph
  • Driving license (old or new)
  • Hunting license with photograph.

These documents must be valid, with the exception of the national identity card and passport, which may be presented valid or expired less than five years ago.

You will have an electronic machine

In seven towns in the Alpes-Maritimes, electronic voting machines are deployed:

Antibes (partially), Mandelieu-la-Napoule, Mougins, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Valbonne, Vence, Villeneuve-Loubet.

Second tour ?

To be elected in the first round, a candidate for deputy must obtain an absolute majority of the votes cast and a number of votes equal to a quarter of the voters registered in his constituency.

To be able to stay in the second round, you must obtain at least 12.5% of the votes.

For example, let’s take the first constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes: in 2022, out of 82,307 registered voters, just under half voted, or 36,516 voters. So even if a candidate wins 50% of the votes cast (18,258 votes), there were not enough voters to win the election because 25% of registered voters, or 20,576, would be needed, a second round is required.

This is to understand the mechanism, but in fact, the prefecture does the calculations and we will give you directly the results of the different districts.

The turnout in the Alpes-Maritimes in 2022 in the first round was 45.20% it was 47.51% according to the IPsos poll for the world of June 28, the turnout could be 63%. In this case, candidates can be elected in the first round.
