Trail. Yannick Noël’s incredible performance in Italy!

Seeing the list of entrants of Lavaredo, Yannick Noël had modestly announced that he was aiming « a Top 10 ».

The trail runner from Neuville-au-Plain (Manche) did even better: in the middle of a tray of rare density on the international scenehe took a formidable 3^e place (1^is French) out of 1,614 startersalthough it only appeared in the 14th^e rank of favorites in the UTMB index behind big names like Pau Capell, former winner of the UTMB, or Benat Marmissolle, crowned on the Diagonale des Fous in 2022.

An impressive comeback

Leaving cautiously, theformer footballer of ES Plain was in 10^e position au 28^e of the 120 kilometers on the program (5,857 m D+). Little by little, the “machine” got started.

The recent winner of the Barjo, where he only took 3 hours 35 minutes to cover the 50 km, nibbled up places before settling definitively at 3^e rank from 77^e km.

He crossed the line 15 minutes behind theGerman Hannes Nambergeralready winner in 2022, and 12 minutes behind the British Tom Evansone of world stars from disciplines.

If this performance may seem less “meaningful” than its 3^e place last year on the prestigious TDS in Chamonix, it remains nonetheless “mind-blowing” according to the local observersamazed by the level reached by the 37-year-old athlete.

Yannick has become monstrous. 3rd in Lavaredo, it’s completely crazy when you look at the list of participants. He is clearly at the top level in the world. He can slam a podium on a UTMB or a “Diag” if he continues like this.

Time for a (short) rest period for the Manche sportsman of the year 2020 who will tackle this summer to the preparation for the UTMB, end of Augustson big goal of the season.
