New forecourt, new heating, and soon new lighting. The historical association takes stock of the latest improvements made to the Saint-Jean-Baptiste chapel in Grandvilliers.
For several years, the historical association of the canton of Grandvilliers and its volunteers, supported by the municipality, have worked to restore the glory of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste chapel.
A clear success which has just reached yet another milestone. Indeed, after the repair of the stained glass windows, three new aspects have and will benefit from restoration.
A square in the name of the first mayor?
At the beginning of last week, after several days of work, the company ELA Rénovation, subcontractor of Fenêtres de Picardie, completed the installation of the new paving stone square in front of the chapel.
“They are Portuguese specialized in this field. They created a very attractive square for us, financed by the municipality“, specifies Daniel Delattre, president of the historical association of the canton of Grandvilliers.
A square to which the town hall will give a name during its inauguration.
“I proposed the name of Charles Lenglierindicates Daniel Delattre. He was the first mayor of Grandvilliers from 1800 until his death in 1807, and was previously buried in the cemetery which was next to the chapel.”

Born in Feuquières in 1748, Charles Lenglier was also a deputy for the Third Estate in 1789 and a jury member at the revolutionary tribunal in 1793.
Heating installed
Friday November 8, an electric chandelier heater, financed by the historical association (€4,800) was installed in the chapel. It was also necessary to drain a mound of clay which was causing humidity.
Soon new lighting
Finally, the historical association is now awaiting the installation of several light points in front of the chapel. A first on the side of the square, a moving electric candle-effect light, then others, on the ground, which will illuminate the facade of the building.
“This will allow us to illuminate the chapel at certain times in the evening.”
Daniel Delattre
On the other side of the square, the historical association also hopes to create a flower bed.
The chapel will be open on Monday, November 18 during the Sainte-Cécile fair, and will later open to the public at least one Saturday per month.
Inside, the historical association compiles a whole bunch of objects and documents relating to the history of Grandvilliers.
