The Civil Defense of the Gaza Strip announced Wednesday morning the death of ten people, including a baby, in Israeli strikes on the Palestinian territory.

In a statement, the Israeli army, for its part, reported the death of one of its soldiers in fighting in northern Gaza, in which an officer was also seriously injured, according to it.

Nighttime Israeli artillery fire killed a baby in the Nusseirat camp, in the center of the Gaza Strip, Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal told AFP.

Two other people were killed near a well west of the same camp, he said.

A drone strike also killed two people, including a 15-year-old girl, on a school transformed into a shelter for displaced Palestinians in Beit Lahia, in the north.

A sixth person died when a group of Palestinians were targeted near another school, east of Rafah (south). Four injuries were also reported.

Still according to Mahmoud Bassal, strikes on a residential building left two dead and wounded in the al-Sabra neighborhood in Gaza City (north), while a member of the Civil Defense who was trying to evacuate the wounded died. in the same neighborhood.

In Zeitoun, another district of the city, an airstrike killed another person and injured several people, the Civil Defense spokesperson added.

The war was triggered by the surprise attack launched on October 7, 2023 by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.

This attack resulted in the death of 1,206 people on the Israeli side, the majority civilians, according to an AFP count based on official figures and including hostages who died or were killed in captivity in the Gaza Strip.

That day, 251 people were kidnapped. In total, 97 remain hostages in Gaza, including 34 declared dead by the army.

Nearly 44,000 Palestinians were killed in the Israeli military campaign of retaliation on the Gaza Strip, mostly civilians, according to data from the Hamas government’s Health Ministry for Gaza, deemed reliable by the UN.
