A fire broke out during the night from Wednesday to Thursday on a farm located on Chemin de Chantapot, in Alex, near Annecy.
An 800 m goat farm2 and a 200 m storage building2 were reduced to ashes, reports France 3. The fire broke out around half past midnight, near the goat farm, leading to the death of 215 goats.
50 firefighters mobilized
According to The Dauphiné Libéré50 firefighters, equipped with four spears had to be mobilized on site in order to put out the flames.
Thanks to their intervention, the house located on the farm was able to be preserved. This Thursday morning, a clearing operation was still in progress. For the moment, the circumstances of the fire remain undetermined.
The previous week, reports France bluea similar disaster had ravaged a farm in Haute-Vienne. 500 goats had lost their lives during the fire. The 2,200 square meter building was ravaged by flames.
These fires are tragedies for farmers: “It’s a lot of work that goes up in smoke. Everything has to be redone but we will be there to help them, especially psychologically,” lamented the firefighters who intervened on site.
