It was around 6 p.m. on Wednesday November 20, 2024, when the skipper of a fishing vessel informed the Cross Jobourg (regional operational surveillance and rescue center) that one of his sailors was sick on board and that he requested medical assistance. The 17 meter trawler P’tit Bobbydeparting from its home port of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) earlier in the day, was fishing about 9 miles (15 km) north of Port-en-Besin (Calvados). “The Cross Jobourg then had to establish a conference call with the maritime medical consultation center based in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) and the SAMU for maritime medical coordination in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime)”, explains the maritime prefecture.
Evacuate by air
After an initial telephone diagnosis, it is recommended to medically evacuate the person. “The Cross Jobourg had to engage the H160 helicopter of the French Navy, based in Maupertus, which took off with a medical team from the army health service on board. »

Once in the area, the H160 had to hoist the sailor on board before transporting it to drop it off in Tourlaville (Manche). She was taken care of by SAMU 50, which brought a firefighter assistance and rescue vehicle to the scene. “The victim was then transported to the Pasteur hospital center in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin,” concludes the maritime prefecture.
