Ahead of the Paris Olympics, the Olympic flame will pass through seven municipalities in the Loire department on Saturday June 22, 2024: Roanne / Charlieu / Montbrison / Feurs / Saint-Chamond / Firminy and Saint-Étienne.

The Olympic flame will cross the Loire on Saturday June 22. Seven cities are affected. 155 bearers of the Flame will take turns, from Roanne to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, in Saint-Étienne.
Nicolas Virapin will be the captain of the torch relay. Carrier of Down syndrome, this athlete is one of the two representatives of the French Adapted Sports Federation. The gymnast, Lorette Charpy, the handidressage champion, Anne-Frédérique Royon, Jean-Michel Larqué, Mélanie Berger-Volle aged 104, and Damani Dembele, breakdance champion, will be at her side.

Roanne will be the first Loire city to celebrate the values ​​of sport. 24 athletes, with Down syndrome, will be at the start of this relay at the Malleval stadium at 9:00 a.m. A 4.4 km route which will pass through Georges Plasse and Mulsant streets, Cours de la République, Avenue Gambetta, Place Clemenceau, Avenue de Lyon to the banks of the Loire.
In the Olympic village, demonstrations from Roannais clubs, BMX shows, adapted sports and sports on inflatable structures for the youngest.

Parking restrictions will be imposed on the route from midnight on Friday evening and it will be prohibited to drive, from 5 a.m., on the route of the passage of the flame. The lanes are scheduled to reopen around 10:30 a.m.

The lighting will take place at the Michel Servet college in Charlieu at 10:30 a.m., then at the Sainte-Eugénie chapel in Montbrison at noon. At 1:05 p.m. at the Feurs racecourse. At 3:30 p.m. at the very recent Arena Saint-Etienne Métropole in Saint-Chamond and 4:30 p.m. at the Unité d’Habitation le Corbusier in Firminy.

The flame will arrive at 5:30 p.m. in front of the planetarium, but activities are planned all day in different parts of the city.

At the Museum of Art and Industry, entry is free for self-guided visits (guided tours still require a fee). Exhibitions and workshops will be offered. In the park, fans can discover Crazy Pong, a quirky variation of ping-pong, or take part in an orienteering race with the family in search of hidden markers.

Place Waldeck-Rousseau at 2:00 p.m., clown show “La caravan de la lazy Olympiques” and Tiens Tiens” by the Compagnie Les Arracheurs de Dents at 4:45 p.m.

The town hall square becomes a sports field on June 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on June 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., where it will be possible to discover disciplines of all kinds.

The mining museum also has its share of surprises: visits, music and sports activities. The design city will also come alive with activities for all ages.

The Flame will finish its Loire race around 7:30 p.m. in Geoffroy-Guichard. The evening will end with a major show of international scope lasting more than 70 minutes from 10:30 p.m.

Traffic restrictions will take place the day before in Saint-Etienne. See the affected areas.

Bus lines M1/M3/M7/10/12/13/16/36 will be diverted. The M6, M9, 21 and 24 are suspended. Gradual network resumption by sector from 6:00 p.m. Almost the entire network will resume normally from 7:20 p.m.
