For its first exhibition event since its temporary closure for work, the Bernard d’Agesci museum brings nature into the museum. The Nature Illuminated exhibition can be discovered from June 21, 2024 to January 12, 2025.

From June 21, the Bernard d’Agesci museum offers you a journey into the fantastic world of naturalist illustration. “. “ This nature theme arrives after a few months of closure due to energy renovation work. It highlights the attention that Niort Agglo pays to climate and biodiversity issues.,” remarks Alain Chauffier, vice-president in charge of culture. Throughout 6 rooms, you will discover how men represented nature from the invention of printing in the 14th century until the industrialization of publications at the end of the 19th century. “ This exhibition may seem completely out of place at a time when you just need to take out your cell phone to photograph an insect or a bird, but we are talking about artists who have worked over a long period of time, carefully observing and meticulously reproducing what they saw and thus advanced scientific knowledge,” explains Jean Worms, co-curator of the exhibition.

Displays will punctuate the exhibition and shed new light on it. The first of them will be devoted to the work of students from the Pablo-Picasso School of Plastic Arts, whose students were inspired by the “Butterflies and Insects” boards of the painter and decorator Emile-Alain Séguy (1877-1951). Furthermore, a rich mediation program is offered, for all audiences: guided tours, conferences, workshops with artists, with a highlight during the Science Festival in October, which will take place around the theme “Ocean of knowledge

Also note a major event during this exhibition: from September 20, the very exceptional loan from the Institut de France (French Academy) of 6 very large format engravings by Jean-Jacques Audubon (1785-1851).
