A computer outage at Skyguide severely disrupted air traffic at Zurich airport on Friday afternoon. For an hour and a half, no planes were able to take off and landings were reduced by half.

The near paralysis of traffic lasted from around 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Zurich Airport told Keystone-ATS. The latter has not yet been able to communicate how many planes and passengers were affected.

The computer outage limited to the Zurich-Kloten site has been resolved. An investigation into the causes is underway. The only certainty is that it was not a cyberattack, according to Skyguide.

During the outage suffered by air traffic controllers, only landings were possible, but these had to be reduced by half. They were delayed and carried out in waves.

After the failure, take-offs resumed without restrictions, except for the delays incurred. For safety reasons, restrictions were maintained, however, initially for landings and flights over Swiss skies.
