Orange announced that it would open its 5G network for everyone in France this summer. The group is starting to do the same abroad and the 5G network will be accessible at no additional cost in Romania.

On the occasion of the Olympic Games, Orange is opening the 5G network to all its customers this summer. Orange subscribers with a 4G plan and a compatible phone will be able to benefit from the fifth generation network for free.

5G for all

And the operator doesn’t just stop at France. Romania is following suit and 5G is offered to all users on the Orange network. Between June 20 and August 31, Orange and YOXO subscribers – the Romanian Sosh – will be able to benefit from the performance of the 5G+ network which provides speeds of up to 1.5 Gb/s in the downstream direction.

5G is currently available in 39 Romanian cities and some are 100% covered, such as Arad, Bacau, Baia Mare, Bucharest, Miercurea-Ciuc, Oradea, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Suceava and Tâgru Mures.

The 5G network is also available this summer via the operator’s prepaid cards. We will now see if the network will also be accessible for French tourist customers of Orange who will use the Romanian network in roaming for holidays. In other cases, the availability of 5G will be according to the agreements signed between the initial operator and the Romanian subsidiary of Orange.

For the moment, Orange does not appear to be opening 5G for all its customers in the other European countries where it is present.
