Be careful in New Aquitaine. Four departments are placed on orange alert for the risk of thunderstorms by Météo France this Tuesday from 6 p.m.

“Sometimes strong thunderstorms are expected at the end of the afternoon and evening in New Aquitaine, with in particular heavy rain intensities and heavy hail”, writes the meteorologist who warns against “violent phenomena”.

Hailstones with a diameter greater than 2 cm, cumulative rainfall which could reach 30 to 50 mm in a short period of time and gusts of around 90 to 100 km/h are expected.

For the rest of the country, in the morning, the stormy rains overnight in the northwest and center will shift quickly northward and evacuate into Belgium at midday. However, light rain will persist throughout the day along the Channel, accompanied by a strong north to northeast wind. Behind this first stormy burst, the sky will be cloudy from the Atlantic coast to the northeast, the weather will be calm in the morning.

In the south-eastern half of the country, from Occitanie to the Alps and Alsace, the weather will remain calm, warm and sunny despite high cloud banks. The south to southeast wind will be weak in general, moderate in the Autan area and in the Rhône valley.

Minimum temperatures will range from 12 to 16 degrees in the northern half, 15 to 19 in the south. The maximums will vary between 16 and 21 degrees in Brittany and along the Channel, 22 and 27 from Pays de la Loire to the Belgian border, and between 27 and 31 in the rest of the country, with local peaks at 32 or 33 degrees. in Provence.

Violent storms already tonight

A very active storm system has followed a Charente-Maritime – Loiret axis in recent hours. It is particularly electric and has produced more than 7,000 lightning strikes in the last 6 hours.
