Since the announcement of the maintenance ofAudrey Dufeuthe candidate of the presidential majority, in the 2nd round of the legislative elections on the 8e constituency of Loire-Atlantique, a wind of protest was blowing over the Saint-Nazaire region. The candidate, who came 3rd on Sunday in the first round, has finally decided to withdraw. This is what she has just announced this Tuesday July 2, 2024.
A turnaround because on Sunday evening, she had made the decision to stay.
A desire repeated on Monday July 1, 2024 during a press conference, considering itself “the only one of the democratic and republican arc” and “beyond the parties”.
A rally in front of the city hall
Since Sunday evening, his candidacy has been causing a stir. A petition was put online by a group of citizens that was spontaneously created on the evening of June 9 after Emmanuel Macron announced the dissolution of the National Assembly.
More than 2,000 signatures have been collected since it was posted online on Monday, July 1. This same collective called for a rally in front of the city hall. Around fifty people of all ages and “without political or union allegiance, but united by fear of the extreme right” gathered. They demanded the withdrawal of Audrey Dufeu. “We are trying to put pressure on,” explains Hélène, a member of the collective.
“Dufeu, put your ego aside, withdraw!” could be read on the placards.
Because of “intimidation”
The message was heard since Audrey Dufeu and her substitute Bassem Neifar have just announced that they are withdrawing. “The political context, hatred and intimidation are forcing us to make this painful decision,” Bassem Neifar posted on X.

No triangle
Voters in the Saint-Nazaire region will ultimately have only two ballots to choose from on Sunday, July 6. That of Matthias Tavel, the candidate of the New Popular Front, and Gauthier Bouchet of the National Rally.
