To take the path to sustainability, Morocco is well equipped. This was confirmed by the specialized platform TAQA Morocco which indicated that “Moroccan uranium appears to be a rescue beacon for global supplies, especially in this swell of events and geopolitical conflicts which affect the chains supply and global energy resources”.

In a report, the platform indicated that “ Morocco adopts a five-year plan to develop nuclear resources and manage water, and supports this plan with a cooperation framework with the International Atomic Energy Agency “.

World leader in the production of phosphates, the Kingdom, taking the path of sustainability, is committed to abundant production of uranium, adds TAQA Morocco. As uncertainties persist over uranium supplies from Russia and Niger, Morocco, an emerging producer, is gaining ground.

Concerning the importance of uranium, the specialized platform stressed that it is especially manifested in the “global electricity sector as fuel for nuclear reactors and power plants producing clean electricity, while aligning with the paths of energy transition and away from fossil fuels”.

The platform estimated that “Moroccan uranium emerges as a new giant”, adding that “this is due to Morocco’s world leadership in phosphate reserves”.

In this sense, TAQA Morocco indicated that the latest estimates reveal that “Morocco has around 73% of the world’s phosphate reserves, estimates which may increase, particularly because Rabat produces 40 million tonnes of rock phosphates per year”.

Phosphate is an important and primary source for the production of uranium, among other derivatives used in the manufacture of agricultural fertilizers, phosphoric acid, and others.

The platform also highlighted the country’s phosphoric potential, indicating that it produced “more than 7 million tonnes of phosphoric acid over 40 years, from 1980 to 2020, and that in the 1980s he developed a technique for producing uranium with phosphoric acid”.

The same platform confirmed that over time, “Moroccan uranium reserves have exceeded 6.9 million tonnes, strengthening its opportunities among the world’s largest producers”.

A leading energy player, TAQA Morocco operates at the Jorf Lasfar Thermal Complex, an industrial infrastructure of 6 Units totaling 2,056 MW and ranked in the upper quartile of the most efficient coal power plants in the world. Listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange since December 2013, TAQA Morocco is part of the TAQA Group, an affiliation which allows it to position itself in line of sight to become a privileged partner in the energy development of Morocco and Africa.
