Against all expectations, Stade Rennais seems inclined to part ways with many major players during this summer transfer window. With departures accelerating in the Breton capital, several reasons explain this sudden intention to sell.

Tensions are running high at Stade Rennais, where concerns are growing among supporters regarding the intensifying departure rumours. Except Fabian Rieder’s departure from VfB Stuttgart in the form of a loan with an option to buy, other interests have emerged concerning Arthur Theate and more recently Enzo Le Fée. The young Rennes midfielder on whom his management seemed to be banking, is finally inclined to leave the Red and Black only one season after his arrival from Lorient. It is Florent Ghisolfi, the new sporting director of AS Roma, who targeted Enzo Le Fée to replenish the midfield of the Italian club. If Stade Rennais has already refused an offer of 18 million euros, the Romans should return to the charge in the coming days to secure the player’s services. This rain of departures which is showing up testifies to an imminent need to bring in money for the Bretons.

Sales needed to fill Europe and TV rights

For the first time in six seasons in a row, Stade Rennais will not play in the European Cup during the 2024-2025 season. Naturally, without participating in a European competition, the Breton club will have to revise downwards its ambitions on the transfer market. At the same time, The uncertainty surrounding Ligue 1 TV rights is also hampering the ambitions of the Red and Blacks during this summer transfer window. In order to fill these major shortfalls, the SRFC has no other choice than to part with several of these players with good market value in order to be able to re-inject them into the transfer market.

Despite the valuable support of François Pinault, the strike force of the Rouge et Noir remains, for the moment, limited on the transfer market. Rennes supporters are perhaps not at the end of their surprises regarding the summer transfer window of their favorite club…
