Viamonde and MonAvenir Siamese schools in Hamilton: the site is confirmed

The Viamonde (secular) and MonAvenir (Catholic) school boards confirm that their new Georges-P.-Vanier and Académie catholique Mère-Teresa secondary schools will be built on a 14-acre site located at 700 Garner Road East in Hamilton.

Both schools are no longer meeting demand and need more modern facilities.

The project involves the construction of two new distinct French-language secondary schools on the same land, sharing the same building around a community school center. The Ministry of Education has just given the final authorization required for the purchase of the site.

Waltz of authorizations

Other sites had been considered, including one on Broughton Avenue acquired in 2015, but it was found that these lands did not meet the requirements of the City of Hamilton.

Having worked for several years with the municipality to comply with municipal regulations, it was necessary to obtain authorization from the province to dispose of the Broughton Avenue site and acquire the Garner East Road site.

“I sincerely thank the Viamonde School Board and the MonAvenir Catholic School Board for working together to meet the needs of families in Hamilton, at a time when we need to build schools more quickly in high-growth areas,” said Stephen Lecce, education Minister.
