The free shows at the Théâtre de Verdure are revealed for summer 2024

The Théâtre de Verdure shows, which attract large crowds every summer at La Fontaine Park, will be back on June 26 with the show Around the block by Michel Rivard. Music, dance, theater, circus and cinema make up the 2024 program, including performances by the Orchester Métropolitain, Soleil Launière, Thierry Larose and the contemporary dance company Catherine Gaudet.

There is something for everyone at the Théâtre de Verdure: among the 33 open-air events announced, we go from classical music to street dance, from traditional folk music to afrobeat, from screenings of award-winning films to shows for children. Music lovers, movie buffs, or simply curious people will have good reasons to go every week to the magnificent theater in La Fontaine Park, reopened in 2022 after major work.

On the music side, we note the show Summer rhythms of the Metropolitan Orchestra (July 12), The Divas of Africa as part of the World Music Festival for women from here and elsewhere (July 5), the winner of the last edition of the Francouvertes Soleil Launière (July 26), Thierry Larose (July 31), or the trumpeter Rémi Cormier (August 16), Révélation Radio-Canada 2023-2024.

Even if the Grands Ballets are not there this year, the dance program is promising. Myokine by Anne Plamondon, presented at the Cinquième salle at Place des Arts this fall, will be on stage on July 17. The Catherine Gaudet Company will present The pretty things, created in 2022 and acclaimed by the industry and critics. The Rubberband, Ezdanza, 100Lux and Grand Poney organizations will also be featured in July and August.

The Théâtre de Verdure will take on the appearance of a drive-in cinema for several local films, including the brilliant Solo by Sophie Dupuis, Gamma rays by Henry Bernadet and Eviction by Matilde Capone.

The Théâtre de la Ligue Nationale d’Improvisation is also announced for July 24, with its show The LNI tackles the classics.

The majority of shows use the first-come, first-served formula, but those by Michel Rivard and the Montreal dance company Rubberband require a reservation to avoid too many people being refused entry.

The entire program is available right here.
