This Friday May 31, 2024 had been checked off on the calendar by the intercommunal hospital center of Marmande to formalize its action against smoking. On the occasion of the world no tobacco daythe CHIC has in fact installed a plaque indicating “Hospital committed to the tobacco-free healthcare strategy. »

Behind the symbolic aspect of the event, hide two years of work by hospital teams, mobilized across numerous departments and led by Nicolas Paleni, director of general affairs. “The hospital is a place of health so we cannot get rid of the smoking problem.

Two main objectivess were thus identified by the steering committee: “ raise awareness and support in tobacco cessation then protect non-smokers by ensuring that the smoking ban is respected but above all limit places of consumption outside the establishment. Depending on the location, it is indeed possible that cigarette smoke rises towards the rooms or disturbs the front of the hospital. »

Patch distribution

Support for smokers is obviously not neglected since the subject affects patients as well as the medical profession. “This is a subject that affects me personally since I was a smoker at a time when we could still consume indoors,” added Philippe Meyer, director of CHIC-MT. “I was HR manager and I received people while smoking. This is obviously no longer acceptable and we must help everyone becauseTobacco is very addictive. »

World No Tobacco Day this Friday, May 31, 2024 was therefore an opportunity to mark the occasion. A stand was set up in the hospital reception hall with a distribution of patches offered to smokers.
