SENEGAL-COLLECTIVITIES- SANITATION / Mbour: Serigne Guèye Diop magnifies the support of the populations for the national cleaning day – Senegalese press agency

Sandiara, June 1 (APS) – The Minister of Industry and Commerce Serigne Guèye Diop welcomed, Saturday in Sandiara, the support of the populations of the department of Mbour (West) in the national clean-up day launched on Saturday by Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

“I have been impressed throughout my journey by the mobilization of the populations. I was first at the hospital where there were more than 300 young people there. At the Saly intersection, it was the same,” said Serigne Guéye Diop.

“There were a lot of clean-up days, but the big problem was that the populations did not take ownership of this notion,” he added.

According to the official, this day reflects the political vision of the new regime to “build a just, transparent, equitable, sovereign and prosperous Senegal”.

”We reassured ourselves that the message got across. We just have to repeat it and ensure that once a month, everyone comes together again for a clean Senegal,” further underlined Mr. Diop, who emphasizes the sustainability aspect of this initiative.

”Follow-up is a very important point. One thing is to launch this operation first, the other thing is not only to ensure follow-up, but to permanently educate young people,” he argued, recalling that each link in the chain has a role to play, citing “the press, teachers, imams and priests”.
