Telefilm Canada’s Development Program is back for 2024-2025

Telefilm Canada announces the reopening of its Development Program next fall as well as a new version of the guiding principles for the year 2024-2025

The Development Program supports the development of eligible Canadian feature films and is made up of four streams: the pre-qualified stream, the general stream, the Indigenous stream and the black and people of color stream.

All production companies selected in the prequalified section will receive, via the Dialogue platform, a notice indicating the amount of eligible financing.

Key dates :

  • Opening: September 3, 2024
  • Closing: September 23, 2024

Important changes:

  • Prequalified stream – The maximum funding amounts offered for the different tiers have changed:
    • Tier A: $100,000;
    • Tier B: $60,000;
    • Tier C: $35,000.
  • General component, Indigenous component and component intended for black people and people of color: the maximum amount of funding offered is $35,0000.
  • The number of requests has been capped:
    • From 2024, projects that have not been accepted twice cannot be resubmitted.
    • A project can be supported a maximum of four times (regardless of the phase).
    • For applications submitted to the selective streams, the previous experience of the same producer can only be used to assess the eligibility of a single application.
  • Introduction of a new pilot initiative called “Tremplin”.
    • The objective of this pilot initiative is to identify projects that have shown promise under the Production Assistance Program, but which have not been selected for funding, and to offer them financial support by development in order to solidify their project for new production demand. Priority will be given to projects with key creative personnel from underrepresented groups and/or underserved regions.
    • Applicant companies that can benefit from this initiative will be contacted directly by Telefilm and will be able to submit their application outside the normal admission period of the Development Program.

We invite all interested parties to review the updated versions of the Guiding Principles and Essential Information Guide which are now available on the Development Program page.
