100 million for Landes colleges: a bet on the future and sustainability

As everywhere in , many educational establishments are real thermal sieves and face real hygiene and safety problems. Thus, the Department of Landes is committed to modernizing and renovating the region’s public colleges, with a total investment of 100 million euros over the period 2021-2026. This financial effort aims to meet the growing needs in education, energy transition and security of establishments, while supporting sustainable development.

Since 2021, the Department has already spent €34.7 million on various projects, covering a wide range of work. Among these investments, 9.5 million euros were allocated to the energy transition of colleges, a major issue in the current context of the fight against global warming. To this are added 8.5 million dedicated to the preservation of built heritage and 1.7 million for hygiene and safety, thus ensuring a healthy and secure environment for students and staff.

Among the notable achievements, the Department contributed 5 million euros to the restructuring and extension of the Parentis-en-Born school campus, a project led by the Region. Other colleges are also benefiting from ambitious renovations. The Lubet-Barbon college in Saint-Pierre-du-Mont is the subject of extension and restructuring work, with a budget of 6.45 million euros. Likewise, the François-Truffaut college in Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx has seen its infrastructure modernized for an amount of 9 million euros. These projects aim not only to improve the reception capacities of establishments, but also to integrate energy solutions that are more respectful of the environment.

Priority to energy renovation

The energy transition aspect is particularly highlighted within the framework of the Forecast Investment Program (PPI). The energy renovation of the Rosa-Parks college day school in Pouillon, for an amount of 1.4 million euros, is a concrete example of the actions carried out. In addition, a wood boiler room was installed at the Jules-Ferry college in Gabarret, replacing an old oil-fired boiler room, at a cost of 1.6 million euros. The Department also completed the renewal of the wood boiler fleet in eight colleges, for a total of 2.2 million euros, as well as the LED relamping of the colleges for 1.8 million euros, thus improving their energy efficiency .
