In April 2024, a first shared accommodation was opened in Granville (Manche) for the accommodation of three young people aged 18 to 30, with the system Young active roommate. Since then, five other accommodations have made it possible to accommodate seventeen young people in total.

Rents from €180 to €300 per month

“These community housing offers more than just a roof over their heads, they encourage learning to be independent and live in a community. Young people share the costs while benefiting from personalized support provided by the CLLAJ (Local Committee for Independent Housing for Young People) and the Local Mission. We want to help young people who would have no chance of finding housing otherwise, because their income is modest,” explains Delphine Desmars, president of CLLAJ.

The rents charged are €180 to €300 per month, depending on the situation of the young people.

Shared accommodation

“This solidarity pact concerning shared housing for young people is the first in ,” underlines Florence Lianos, regional commissioner for the fight against poverty. The State financially supports this system to the tune of €60,000. The pact is signed by Julien Miniconi, sub-prefect of Coutances, Florence Lianos, Marine Lapie, president of the local Mission and Delphine Desmars.

Officials were able to visit two affected accommodations with three roommates already in place. “We should open a 7th accommodation soon,” confide the organizers.
