This is a first in Normandy. Around thirty runners took part in a 161 kilometer long foot race on the occasion of the 2024 edition of the trail de la Roche d’Oëtre, which was held on Saturday October 19 and Sunday October 20 in Orne. The event was won by runner Yohan Nezan.

This “ultra-trail” in the forest is a new addition to the sporting event, a benchmark for the discipline in Normandy which is held every year in Saint-Philbert-sur-Orne, bringing together more than 2,000 people. Seven trail races are offered, from 5 to 161 kilometers.

The new 161 kilometer race started this Saturday at 10 a.m. at Roche d’Oëtre and ended this Sunday at 6 p.m. The runners completed a loop twice passing through Ségrie- and La Forêt-Auvrey, on a track with a difference in altitude of 5,650 meters.

The main difficulty is firstly the topography of the place. We are not in the mountains, but we are still in the semi-mountains. The second, which is less visible, is the technicality of the course, with a lot of rocks, a lot of slips due to the unpredictable weather, which really made the course very difficult.“, explains one of the race organizers.

It was difficult, but the race went well. You have to know how to restart at the top of the hill. And the weather has made the terrain a little complicated“, describes Yohan Nezan, the winner of the event. It’s very demanding, but it’s a trail course, a real trail, so it’s normal. Normandy Switzerland can have the honor of having a trail like this“, continues Sébastien Dejoin, who came second.
