The southern zone of Reunion Island will be placed on yellow alert for strong winds this Wednesday, May 8 from 8 a.m., Météo France services announce. The area is subject to a fairly strong East-South-East Trade Wind regime.

The night this Tuesday will be marked by gusts of 60 to 70 km/h, from Saint-Philippe to l’Étang-Salé, Champ-Borne to la Grande-Chaloupe, as well as on the summits.

Throughout the day Wednesdaythe wind will still blow continuously, again with gusts between 60 and 70 km/h at daybreak, between Saint-Philippe and Pointe au Sel for the South, and between
Champ-Borne and Grande-Chaloupe for the northern coasts. Likewise points of the same order
are expected on the summits.

A new level will be reached in the morning with gusts reaching 65 to 75 km/h from Champ-Borne to Saint-Denis, around 60 km/h from Sainte-Rose to Saint-André, and especially 75 to 85 km/h between Saint-Pierre and the Étang-Salé. The gusts on the highest peaks will also gain strength.

In terms of sensitive weather, the island will again be split into two parts at the start of the day. To the east of a line stretching from Saint-Denis to Saint-Philippe, clouds will cause some showers, while the sun dominates elsewhere.

Over the hours, these clouds will tend to thin out, starting with the northern and northeastern coastlines, leaving the summit of La Fournaise free from midday.

Conversely, the clouds will take over the Hauts de l’Ouest and will end up releasing a few drops during the afternoon. Cloudy periods bringing showers will return from the East at the very end of the day. While the cirques and the entire southern coast will benefit from clear sunshine.
