In April 2024, the editorial staff of 30 million friends unveiled its list of cities where it is good to live with your dog. 42 cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants were surveyed, and Caen only ranks 36th. Explanations.

Accessibility, cleanliness, awareness…

Where is it good to live with your dog? To find out, 30 million friends transmit it every year a questionnaire to 42 French cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants.
The objective? Identify information divided into five main categories – accessibility, cleanliness, awareness, engagement and free chats – and establish a national ranking.

Some criteria are more important than others, such as accessibility for example, “to the extent that it is essential to allow easy movement in urban space”, we can read on the website of the magazine of the foundation for the defense and protection of animals, which believes that “cities have made good progress” in this area. The criterion of cleanliness is also of great importance:

Dog waste bag distributors, awareness campaigns, criminal sanctions… All these indicators are essential.

As for awareness, it is considered “essential to promote living together”.

Only one asset for Caen: cleanliness

In this little game, Lille, Nice and Bordeaux trust the first three places in the ranking.
Le Havre, the first Norman city, is doing very well and has jumped 13 places compared to 2023. A progression which allows it to enter the top 10, rising from 20th to 7th national rank. Rouen, 30th, is far behind, but progress compared to last year (38th).

On the other hand, Caen is struggling. The Calvados prefecture lost four places and ranks 36th in 2024leaving only six cities behind (Nantes, Villeurbanne, Clermont, Argenteuil, and Saint-Denis and Saint-Paul de La Réunion).

If it stands out in the sector of cleanliness with a good score of 15/20, it is poorly ranked in terms of accessibility (7.7/20) and poor in terms of awareness (3.3/20). In total, Caen obtains a score of 7.4/20far from the first, Lille with 16.2/20, and its neighbor Le Havre (13.2/20).
