“It’s wonderful”: a work of art created in tribute to the Pope’s visit to Belgium

The Pope is visiting Belgium, in particular Brussels and Louvain. For the occasion, a Belgian artist created an earthenware egg in homage to the head of the Catholic Church.

The work recalls the stained glass windows of churches, the white silhouette, that of the Pope. The egg carries a symbol: life. Here, it takes shape in color. Pilgrims join the sovereign pontiff, surrounded by doves of peace.

We really see these stained glass windows passing through these beams and going out into the world. But hey, here, of course, the Pope comes to Belgium and Luxembourg. So we can see, I turn a little, the Gëlle Fra, the lady in gold for Luxembourg. And then afterwards, of course, we see the symbol of the Atomium to represent Belgium.”explains Catherine Lhoir, sculptor-designer.

This egg is a special edition limited to 200 copies. A unique object of art crafted by hand in the prestigious Longwy enamels earthenware factory. One more honor for the Arlon artist: “I think that’s what’s wonderful. Working with contemporary materials, but also with materials that have proven themselves for centuries and which, unfortunately, are becoming rare at present. We really need to keep this heritage

The egg is an object to look at and touch, intended for collectors and why not sovereign pontiffs. “We hope, but that is not current. I don’t know if the Grand Duke saw it and if it gave him the idea to order one for the Pope. I’m not into state secrets“, confides the artist.

589 euros is the price of this work in homage to spirituality and peace throughout the world.
