Saint-Eloi. Members of the Franco-Polish Association of Saint Eloi celebrate the European Heritage Days. The Franco-Polish Association of the town came together to celebrate the European Heritage Days, a privileged opportunity to explore local historical and cultural riches.

This year, it is to Panneçot that the members decided to go for a day of discoveries, in a setting combining conviviality and exploration of heritage.

The day began with a gourmet lunch, where regional flavors were in the spotlight. The menu, composed of local products, was unanimous.

After this warm meal, a digestive walk led the group to the majestic Anizy castle, a historical treasure dating from the 12th century. e century, nestled on the banks of the Aron. This castle, surrounded by a moat and carefully restored from the 1970s, has regained its former glory.

Thanks to Véronique Cassegrain, owner of the castle and passionate guide, visitors were able to immerse themselves in the history of this building on a human scale. Classified as a Historic Monument, the castle exudes a peaceful and almost timeless atmosphere.

Dancing entertainment

The visit continued with the discovery of the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Martin d’Anizy, built in 1140. This architectural gem, once transformed into a stable after the French Revolution, was the subject of careful restoration between 1988 and 1995.

The afternoon continued in Planchez, where the members of the association had the chance to discover the Presle water mill. The imposing wheel of the mill, with its four meters in diameter, turns a set of old mechanisms which recall the artisanal know-how of yesteryear.

A small adjoining museum, installed in the former millers’ home, exhibits everyday objects from the time, immersing visitors in a bygone world.

The group was able to attend a pottery demonstration, before enjoying traditional musical entertainment which brightened the end of the afternoon and led the participants in some dance steps.
