Split and charred sheet metal. This is what remains of the company Galvanoplast (formerly Zindel) specializing in the treatment of metals and surfaces by chemical processes, in Lorscourt (Doubs). Friday evening, around 9 p.m., a huge fire broke out in the factory located near Montbéliard. While sixteen employees were still working, flames and plumes of smoke emerged from the company, then spreading into the adjacent streets, in the middle of a residential area.

Some residents were then evacuated. “I didn’t stay long. It was still impressive”says one of them, interviewed in the TF1 report at the top of this article. Others confined themselves. “I heard a boom. I’m like ‘what is TV?’. Finally, I go to my terrace. With what was coming out and how it was burning, I closed everything”reports another resident of the neighborhood.

No pollution detected in the river

Friday evening, 58 firefighters, five vans and a chemical and technological risk vehicle were mobilized. The fire ravaged three production lines using electroplating, a process aimed at covering an object with a layer of metal. According to Colonel Jean-Luc Potier, deputy departmental director of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Doubs, the risk of air pollution has been avoided, thanks in particular to “favorable weather conditions”, notably the presence of wind.

“We had a lot of rain and a lot of water. The rivers are loaded with water, so there is a lot of flow and a strong dilution of the products. To date, we have had no detection of pollution in the river “, assures Anaël Bouchot, commander of SDIS 25, interviewed in the TF1 report above.
