A chair “Avalanche” hits the Marais!

For several days now, a unique waterfall has been flowing in the heart of the marsh… Discover “Avalanche”, the new work by Tadashi Kawamata installed at 35-37 rue des Francs-Bourgeois.

A unique exhibition

The streets of the marsh are alive. They are part of the nerve center of the capital, and attract people from all walks of life. So, when an almost perpetual crowd has formed in the rue des Francs-Bourgeois for several days, we wonder why. The answer: Because the famous Japanese visual artist Tadashi Kawamata has taken up residence in the courtyard of the Hôtel de Coulanges since September 21. He exhibits his brand new work there, called “Avalanche”. A true manifestation of contemporary art, where chairs seem to be projected into space. They flood the paving stones and form a fluid and organic whole. An offbeat genre that catches the eye of the curious. To discover it on site, you will have to be quick: this creation is only on display until October 2.

Tadashi Kawamata and , a story that endures:

Tadashi Kawamata is not his first attempt. Creating works all over the world, he maintains a unique connection to the city of Paris. This is why, in 2013, he infiltrated Place Vendôme by building 5 wooden cabins there. One of them was even located at the top of the column. Ten years later, he moved to rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. It is 2023, and the artist installs a nest of chairs collapsing from a Haussmannian building. A first Avalanche, which towered over the heads of passers-by, and was, fortunately, in balance.
