The municipalities are preparing the festivities for the 80th anniversary of the landing.

Jean-Pierre Mauquest, the mayor of Montebourg (Manche), presented a first program which he carried out with members of the council.

“To start, we will ask traders to be able to decorate their window in the colors of the 80th anniversary “.

The town will be decorated and in front of the town hall will be installed reproductions of photos on canvas. This event will allow everyone, to participate in the festivities in their own way, whether residents, schools, visitors.

From May 30, 2024

Activities will begin on Thursday May 30, 2024 with the campus who will settle on the Dr-Louis-Le-Cacheux stadium. he will be present until Monday June 10, 2024.

The public will be able to discover the camp and interact with those present. In the old tourist office, the main street and in the media library, it will be set up there a photo exhibition.

Steve Reich was born in New York on October 3, 1936, he is considered one of the pioneers of minimalist music.

Concerning the work which won the Grammy Award in 1989, it relates in parallel, the experience of the young Steve Reich traveling by train from New York to Los Angeles between 1939 and 1942, to visit his divorced parents, with the memory of the deportees from Europe transported by train to concentration camps.

He implies that if he had lived in Europe at that time, as Jewish, these are these “ very different trains » which he probably should have taken. In this very moving piece, the composer alternates sound effects evoking trains (sirens, screeches), music And recordings family and historical testimonies.

At 14 hoursschool students accompanied by their teachers will discover the photo exhibition of the media library and the old tourist office. And at 2:30 p.m., they will go to discover three historic sites of the Battle of Montebourg in the presence of witnesses from 44.

“They will end with a visit to the US camp at Dr-Louis-Le-Cacheux stadium and the students will be given a souvenir pencil,” explained the mayor.
