Follow the Marne

The return of sunny days undeniably makes you want to go out. With a department as green as Seine-et-Marne, paths for hiking do not miss. Small or large outing, in the middle of the forest or in the middle of the fields, the possibilities are multiple. You just need to know your route, a good pair of shoes, water and off you go! Follow the leader.

An easy route

From Lagny to Esbly. To discover the landscapes which border the Marne between these two towns, you will have to follow the white and red markers. The route is 11 km long and lasts 2h45. The very low altitude difference (70 meters) nevertheless makes it accessible to the uninitiated. The return is by train, via line P.

Departure is from Lagny station. Cross the Marne and turn left to follow the bank of the Marne for 2 km. The path leaves the bank. You have to take, on the left, the road parallel to the Marne until you reach a park with strange sculptures. Continue to follow the bank of the Marne until the Chalifert lock. Go right and climb the path that climbs up Chalifert hill.

Cut the D 45, the D 89 and go down to the left to reach the Chalifert canal. Pass the Lesches-Coupvray lock and continue along the canal. Cut the D45a. You are in Coupvray: crossing the canal and following the road then a street towards the south we find the birthplace of Louis Braille 300 m away and the Coupvray castle park 900 m away. Continue along the canal, passing under the railway bridge. The path becomes a street and leads to the D5d. Follow it to the left and shortly after, turn left into rue du Général-Leclerc to reach Esbly station.

Departure is from Trilport station. Facing the tracks, turn left, go up the steps and take rue du Général-de-Gaulle, then turn right.
