Haute-Savoie. The Department fights against Asian hornets: more than 500 captured

In March 2024, the Department of Haute-Savoie launched its Asian hornet trapping campaign. A little over 2 months later, the results are more than positive.

In partnership with the Beekeeping Union of Haute-Savoie90 traps were installed in all the municipalities of the department. 531 hornets “founder” type were caught.

In fact, a trapping campaign is carried out in two stages, and the Department clearly differentiates between the two types of hornets: “in the spring, we trap the hornets. founders in foraging areas so as to avoid the creation of nests. In autumn, we trap the workers in areas of high concentration of the insect or near apiaries to protect the latter from attacks.

As the weather improves, catches should increase considerably. The authorities encourage “trapping beekeepers to continue their efforts during this critical period”.
