Bambey, April 23 (APS) – Teachers at the Alioune Diop University (UAD) of Bambey (center) began Monday, wearing red armbands until Saturday, to protest against their working conditions and the difficulties faced by this university establishment is facing, noted the APS.

”Today (Monday) we started wearing red armbands in lecture halls, laboratories and offices to deplore the lack of infrastructure observed for several years at the Alioune Diop University in Bambey and the budget deficit which is close to more than fifty percent of the university budget,” Malick Touré, communications officer for the Autonomous Union of Higher Education Teachers of Alioune Diop University (SAES-UAD), told the press.

In the presence of these fellow teachers who are members of this union, he maintained that the water and electricity cut still persists on the campus, also pointing out a lack of offices for teacher-researchers and unequipped laboratories.

The unionist invited the public authorities to put in place an infrastructure plan to get the university out of this crisis and asked on behalf of his colleagues a financial, accounting and organizational audit of the management of the university.

Malick Touré noted that the very difficult working conditions have led to a high dropout rate of students and teachers who resign to go to other universities or abroad.

He indicated that UAD teachers do not rule out stopping classes and intend to use all legal avenues to satisfy their demands.
