King Charles III unveils 2024 garden party schedule

Every year, the British sovereign organizes three garden parties once the sunny days arrive. Two garden parties are traditionally held at Buckingham Palace and the final one is held at Holyrood Palace, the sovereign’s official workplace in Scotland. King Charles III has just shared his calendar, revealing the dates of May 8 and 21 for his English garden parties and reserving the date of July 2 for his Scottish garden party. It is not yet known whether the king will attend all the events himself. The members of the family take turns to ensure a royal presence, in the absence of the sovereign.

Garden parties are highly anticipated events for the British. The guests are deserving citizens, most of whom have received an award or distinction. Representatives of associations from all sectors are also invited, as well as personalities from different backgrounds.

Princess Anne and Duke of Kent receive permission to host their own garden party

In addition to the three official garden parties, it is common for the sovereign to decide to organize additional events to highlight a cause or organization. This year, he will organize one more garden party on May 15, at Buckingham Palace, to which members of the creative community will be invited. All creative professions are concerned, such as publishing, the world of entertainment, media, cinema, audiovisual, production, fashion, etc.

Finally, the sovereign can also give permission to members of his family to exceptionally organize their own garden party. This year, King Charles III granted this permission to his sister, Princess Anne, and her cousin, the Duke of Kent. Princess Anne will organize her own garden party on May 17, in honor of the association The Not Forgotten of which she is the godmother. Nearly 2,000 beneficiaries of the association, which helps veterans, will visit Buckingham Gardens.

The Duke of Kent will organize his garden party on May 23 for the RNLI, the sea rescue institution of which he has been the patron since 1969. This association is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. Nearly 2,500 rescuers, volunteers and members of the management team will be present.
